Steinfjellbakken at Sprova was inaugurated in 1947 and became an important place for ski jumping. Many competitions were held there with famous jumpers such as Bjørn Wirkola and Lars Grini. Until the 1990's, Europa Cup and Continental Cup competitions were hosted at Sprova. In 1999 Steinfjellbakken lost its FIS certificate and since then no FIS competitions have been held here, but the hill is still used for national competitions such as Norwegian Championships and Norgescup.
